Overview
The PDD program is an Alberta Government funded program designed to support adults with developmental disabilities in living fuller, more independent lives. If you are supporting a loved one who is approaching adulthood or already an adult; understanding PDD is one of the most important steps you can take.
What PDD Covers
A Program Built Around Each Individual
PDD funding is designed to support individuals in their daily lives and community participation. Approved services include:
Community living support
Life skills development
Employment readiness and support
Social and community integration
Residential care options
Respite services for families
Day programs and structured activities
What PDD Does Not Cover
PDD funding is specifically for disability related supports. It does not cover:
Medical or health care costs — these fall under Alberta Health Services
Housing costs such as rent or mortgage
Food, groceries and household expenses
Personal clothing and hygiene products
General transportation unrelated to disability support
Educational tuition or school fees
Adult Care
Who Qualifies
To be considered for PDD support an individual must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a resident of Alberta
- Have a developmental disability as defined under the PDD Act
- Have a demonstrated need for ongoing support services
