FSCD — Family Support for Children with Disabilities
Supporting families raising a child with a disability to access the funded services they need across Alberta.
Overview
Every child deserves the chance to grow, learn and belong. The FSCD program is Alberta’s way of making sure families have the support they need to make that happen. If your child has a disability or developmental delay , FSCD could be one of the most important programs you access as a family.
What FSCD Covers
FSCD is designed to support both the child and the whole family. Funded services include:
Respite care — regular, reliable relief so families can rest and recharge
Skill development — structured programs that help children build practical life skills
Community inclusion — support for children to participate actively in community life
Community inclusion — support for children to participate actively in community life
Behavioural support — positive, structured programs that support healthy development
Family support & counselling — helping families navigate challenges and build capacity
Specialised equipment — items directly related to the child's disability needs
Child care support — additional support for families with complex needs
What FSCD Does Not Cover
FSCD is specifically for disability related supports. It does not fund:
Medical or health care — covered by Alberta Health Services
School based educational support — covered by the school system
General child care unrelated to the disability
Housing, food, clothing or household expenses
Recreational activities with no direct link to the child's disability needs
Adult Care
Who Qualifies
A child may be eligible for FSCD if they:
- Are under 18 years of age
- Live in Alberta
- Have a diagnosed disability or developmental delay
- Need support beyond what is typically available to families
